Bioinformatics - a hybrid profession pairing biology and computer science is now the career choice of the decade. Bioinformatics is an emerging field being fueled in part by the Human Genome Project and other development in Biology that require a lot of knowledge fo both fields. Each bit of data produced by the project must be sorted and analyzed, then studied for possible clues and eventual cures for diseases. With a nearly infinite amount of data, the most efficient way to do that is to use computers. And the people designing and operating those computers and their programs are best suited to the job if they have an understanding of both the science of biology and the science of computers, hence bioinformatics. In general, bioinformaticists include scientists or experts in computational mathematics. The experts write computer code while scientists research the biology; workers cross-trained in both skills are invaluable. Drug companies, universities and government institutions have already created bioinformatics groups to do the work of the genome project, but that's launched an explosion in job opportunities without a workforce to fill the positions. There are careers for those who can use databases, read data, enhance computer code and develop new software. BTBITS is building its database of excellent talent in the bio-informatics arena and will be on the forefront to fill this demand as it arises.
